Apple has unveiled a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, a faster A20 Pro chip, and improved durability. Announced on October 26, 2026, the new tablet brings several flagship features to Apple’s smallest iPad while retaining its compact design.
The new iPad Mini gets an 8.5-inch OLED display.
The new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, up from 8.3 inches on the previous generation. Apple says the display offers up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
A nano-texture display option is also available to help reduce reflections in bright environments, making the tablet more practical for reading, creative work, and outdoor use.
The A20 Pro chip brings a performance boost
The tablet is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, designed to improve processing, graphics, and on-device AI performance. Apple says AI performance can be up to 4.5 times faster than the previous generation, while graphics performance can be up to 2.7 times faster in supported workloads.
The new iPad mini runs iPadOS 27 and supports Apple’s latest Apple Intelligence features, subject to availability and language support.
Thinner design and IP67 protection
The redesigned iPad mini is just 5.4 mm thin and has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It comes in Midnight and Starlight finishes, with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options.
Camera, audio, and Apple Pencil support
The device includes a 12MP front camera positioned on the landscape edge with Center Stage for video calls. Its 12MP rear camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second.
Apple has also introduced an acoustic display audio system. The tablet is compatible with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), making it useful for note-taking, drawing, and productivity.

Is the new OLED iPad mini worth considering?
The OLED screen, upgraded processor, and water and dust resistance make the new iPad mini a substantial upgrade for people who want a powerful tablet in a compact size.
However, its starting price puts it in the premium tablet segment. Buyers should consider whether they need its portability and performance or would be better served by a larger-screen tablet at a similar price.
